On February 5, the Hong Kong CMA Certification Center and the Hong Kong University of science and technology held a press conference on the first mobile testing laboratory in Hong Kong. Professor Wen Weijia of Hong Kong University of science and technology and Mr. Y.K. Lau, director of CMA verification center, attended the press conference.
The mobile laboratory was jointly developed by the CMA Verification Center and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in conjunction with China Automotive Engineering Research Institute Co., Ltd. and Shenzhen Shineway Technology Co., Ltd., making molecular diagnosis a reality for thousands of households in Hong Kong. The laboratory is mainly divided into three functional areas: reagent preparation area, sample processing area, and amplification analysis area. In terms of safety system, construction standards and functions, the laboratory is consistent with traditional laboratories and conforms to international standards, but it is more flexible and convenient than traditional laboratories. It can serve nursing homes, schools, companies, airports, cruise ships, street offices, etc. Epidemic prevention and control are normalized.
3D model of RT-PCR mobile laboratory
Mr. Y.K. Lau said at the press conference that the mobile laboratory will enter the elderly centers, schools, communities and other places in Hong Kong in the short term. The project aims to help normalize epidemic prevention and control, promote the integration of "industry, University and research", and accelerate the implementation of scientific and technological achievements. The future development direction is to explore the overseas market of mobile laboratories.
Mobile RT-PCR detection laboratory
At the press conference, Professor Wen mentioned that PCR Nucleic Acid Analyzer(SWM01) contained in the mobile laboratory is currently the world's fastest gold standard nucleic acid detection instrument. It can quickly diagnose COVID-19 in 40 minutes, 2-3 times faster than the current instrument, and greatly accelerate the detection time. The instrument uses microfluidic chip to amplify specific virus nucleic acid fragments through rapid heat transfer technology. The test results of the instrument have high accuracy. On the other hand, this testing instrument is light, portable and easy to operate. This technology and product have been adopted by governments and medical institutions in many countries.
Professor Wen introduced SWM-01 at the press conference
After 2019, the mobile laboratory will be officially put into use in Hong Kong, serving Hong Kong citizens, and is committed to providing fast and accurate nucleic acid testing services, which will provide great convenience to the general public.
